CAR Analysis

Dr. Sharon L. Bender

October, 2002

CAR Analysis (conception, application, realization) is a pretty simple model that can be used a great many ways to work through any project planning, problem solving, or decision making venture.

I've used relative terminology in a manuscript I wrote on "Understanding Distance Education" in a section on "Profile of a Distance Learner" (p. 66 & 67) as follows:

"To gain the most from a learning experience, it should be challenging. The challenge should employ a variety of behaviors or learning tactics (methods of learning). There are likely three sets of learning tactics that can be used when facing a challenging experience: feeling, thinking, and acting. Increasing the number of learning tactics may help a learner become more versatile in conceptualization, application, and results realized."

The "feeling, thinking, and acting" referred to in the manuscript equate to the "emotional, intellectual, and physical" components in the section on "Realization" in the CAR Analysis model.
