Bottom Line Team Development

This article covers diverse style team players adapted from Glen Parkers four team player styles, a topic I covered in a course paper I wrote in 1996 discussing polarization. Team players are not team leaders, but rather they are collaborative members of a team. I have long said, "We spend a lot of time examining what makes an effective leader. We need to devote equal time to what makes an effective follower." Meet my "bottom line" team.

Motivate, Educate, and Delegate for Preventative Maintenance

This article covers the MED Approach to performance improvement measures. My historical origination of this article is offered to give you an overall picture of the journey involved in the development of the model. Meet the "adaptive commander."

Featured Inventions!

Developmental Rating Scale

This invention is addressed in my article, "SCaT in Research." I've used the geographic shapes (Square, Circle, and Triangle) to formulate a new understanding for a developmental rating scale that stemmed from the “New Supervisor/Manager Training Program” that I took at BASF in 1997 as offered by its Corporate Training Department.

My model is called, “Developmental Rating Scale” (DRS), derived from Ken Blanchard’s Situational Leadership program. Included was the “Leadership Behavior Analysis II” scoring guide. In my notations, I used the square, circle, and triangle (SCT) covered in the training, equating those to primary, secondary, and developing leadership styles as they were introduced to us.

Six Buckets

Six Buckets of situational questions is a tool that reminds us to ask and answer the six "question words" (what, why, how, when, who, and where) when interviewing, writing reports, or for developing interventions. See my roots on words.

Tidbits!

I have long professed that "leadership" is not "it," but, rather that there is a "trio of commanders" that lives in all of us in varying degrees. I suggest these are the characteristics of the "leader, instructor, and manager." These are individuals who are able to motivate, educate, and delegate (MED Approach) effectively. I view this hybrid individual as a form of "transcendental being," which many have defined differently.

"Triangulation is a hybrid variation to the strict dichotomy of quantitative versus qualitative research" (Bender, 2000, p.76), which has lead to the development of Q3 Inquiries.

When conducting research, consider the valuable input from your sphere of influence. I used this approach in my dissertation when seeking participants. "These individuals were solicited based on recommendations from the researcher’s sphere of influence (networking group of individuals who provide support and connections)" (Bender, 2000. p. 114).

What's New!

I am currently working on a chartable project for the benefit of underprivileged women and children in America. More about my activities for children.

A particular seminar and book that greatly influenced my educational process in earning the doctorate was, "Negotiating Graduate School" as produced by Dr. Mark Rossman who believes all students are "possibilitarians." Statistics show that far too many who strive for the doctorate will only accomplish ABD (all but dissertation) status. I believe those who prevail are those who are able to effectively manage their strengths, opportunities, and roadblocks in their lives in general.

I enrolled in the ASM degree program in 1992 for which I attended classes. Even in the online program I sat for proctored midterms and finals. One thing to realize about online learning is that you will spend more time on an online course than a traditional classroom course. I've done both. I know the challenges presented in both kinds of learning. Eight years of "non-stop" effort later I earned the PhD. As I have learned, "You are one of your most important resources. You consist of a mind, body, and spirit" (Rossman, 1995).
