Quantitative, Qualitative, and Quasitative Inquiries in Human Performance Technology: Measure the Past, Observe the Present, and Imagine the Potential

The article presents a complete picture approach in conducting investigations specific to the human performance technology (HPT) field. Deploying HPT from this perspective helps practitioners to more thoroughly understand the complexities surrounding performance issues, and to build a stronger case before ever attempting to select and promote an intervention. Sharon L. Bender, Ph.D. has served as a volunteer in the editing of children's books for World Children Organization (WCO). The mission of WCO is to produce works, the sale of which will yield profits dedicated to the global education of underprivileged children. One book is available for purchase titled, "A Life of Science: Wisdom from Conversations with 11 Distinguished Chinese American Scientists." I highly recommend this book for anyone young and old who is interested in science and the journey taken by scientists. This is interesting and educational reading, and the proceeds go to help children from many countries to become educated.

Jersey Girl Goes "Down the Shore"

The article that spawned a series.

Born and raised a Jersey girl, I've spent my share of summer days "down the shore," as we Jersey's like to say. Summer means rhythmic waves and masses tied with beach towels at the waist, flip flopping on the boardwalk.

Sandy Hook

All summer long at the SeaStreak Ferry at Pier 11 on Wall Street, waiting passengers tote beach gear instead of brief cases. They don bathing garb rather than business attire. All are in anticipation of the famously clean, sandy, and dune lined paths and beaches at Sandy Hook.

Wildwood

If you imagine amusement parks and beaches together, you are probably thinking of Wildwood, New Jersey, one of the best spots in the state for year-round fun. Wide sandy beaches, parades, amusement parks, good eating, and much more is in store for you at Wildwood! It’s all just a hop, skip, and a jump off the Garden State Parkway, headed south. See you there!

Q3 Inquiries is a new epistemological triad comprising quantitative, qualitative, and quasitative applications for research, problem-solving, and performance improvement. For more information about Q3 Inquiries and "quasitative" applications, please visit the Q3 Inquiries Library.

Triangulation Thinking is a means to categorize and interpret like terms, use two points to plot a third, or use three like terms for further triangulation at three equal sides, reducing polarization. In research this approach enables improved validity, reliability, and generalizability of the data/findings.

SOR Analysis is a hybrid of SWOT Analysis that enables us to identify our strengths, opportunities, roadblocks in any performance improvement effort.
